Overview:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Gallery Assistant Intern to join our team. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in gallery operations, art handling, and event coordination. As a Gallery Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the daily activities of the gallery and ensuring a smooth and engaging visitor experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the setup and takedown of exhibitions, including artwork installation and lighting adjustments
  • Provide excellent customer service to gallery visitors, answering questions and providing information about exhibitions and artists
  • Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of gallery spaces
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of gallery events, including openings, artist talks, and workshops
  • Manage and update inventory records, including cataloging new artwork and maintaining accurate documentation
  • Support the gallery team with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and correspondence
  • Research artists and art trends to assist in curating exhibitions and writing promotional materials
  • Assist with social media and marketing efforts as needed

Requirements:

  • Passion for art and a keen interest in the gallery and museum sector
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Physical ability to assist with the installation of artwork, including lifting and moving pieces
  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field is preferred
