About Melisa Karabekiroglu

Melisa Karabekiroglu’s practice is centred on observing and recreating the subtleties of human emotion through sculptures, ceramics, and etchings. By capturing fleeting moments of expression and sentiment, her work explores the intricacies of what it means to feel.

In her sculptural pieces, Melisa often portrays figures caught in moments of tension, discomfort, or vulnerability. These subjects are positioned in contorted or restrictive poses, evoking a sense of being physically or emotionally “stuck.” Her exploration of these states reveals the fragility and resilience inherent in the human experience.

Working across multiple mediums, Melisa experiments with texture, form, and detail to emphasise the subtle shifts in posture, gesture, and surface that communicate emotion. Her ceramic works possess a tactile, organic quality, while her etchings bring precision and depth, drawing attention to the interplay of line, shadow, and movement.

Through this process, Melisa creates works that resonate on both personal and universal levels, inviting viewers to reflect on the emotional landscapes that shape our shared humanity.
