Her & Him – Aria Kiani
Hollow sculpted glass, 14 x 15 x 18 cm each.
Aria: “These early attempts at skulls were made during my scholarship to the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, under the tutelage of internationally renowned Czech sculptor Martin Janekey.
The skulls were shipped home, where I had a chance to look at them together for the first time, they resembled a couple. At this time, I began my Residency at UCA, returning to Farnham after graduating from the university seven years ago.
While there, I’ve reflected on the changes in my life since then, the challenges that arose, the growth that I went through. A big part of this has been reflecting on the long-term relationship I had back then with a person who I no longer have contact with. Her & Him came to represent this past relationship, a couple that has passed, two friends who don’t know each other anymore, but the memory of them together always remains.”
